Murray, the 29-year-old Middlesex wicket keeper, hit the highest score of his first-class cricket career when he made an attractive 142 for the M.C.C. against North Eastern Transvaal on the second day of the match at Pretoria yesterday. Murray, whose innings Included 20 fours and a six over long-on, batted 201 minutes with F. J. Titmus (65). They added 137 in a little more than even time to rescue the M.C.C. from the embarrassing position of being 134 for six just before lunch. Their stand was mainly responsible for the M.C.C. finishing with 350 and taking a first innings lead of 146.

The leg-spinner, G. Hall, finished with the best figures, six for 145.

When play ended for the day North Eastern Transvaal was struggling in its second innings total, being 23 for three after 45 minutes' batting.
