Plaque To Poet Unveiled
* (N Z. Prett Association) TIMARU, Dec. 20, • A plaque commemorating the centenary of the birth of Jessie Mackay, a poet, and journalist, was unveiled by Her niece, Mrs R. A. Bruce, at the Kakahu Bush Hall on Saturday. ' More than 60 persons attended the function in the small building which was formerly the Kakahu Bush School where Miss Mackay was appointed head teacher in 1887. , Two of her poems, “Making” and “Poet and Farmer,” were read by Mrs A. D. Talttot, wife of the chairman of the Geraldine County Council. Members of the New Zealand Historic Places Trust and other organisations were present.
