OUT OF FORM
White Rajah May Return The Riccarton two-year-olds White Rajah and Delago will probably be brought home from the North Island this week.
They finished together at the tail of the field in the Golden Stakes Handicap at Awapuni on Saturday, and their trainer, J. R. Shaw, said he would bring them back to Riccarton as soon as possible. White Rajah’s loss of form is disappointing after good performances for Mr W. H. Williamson in the spring. Halycon was an impressive winner of the two-year-old race at Awapuni on Saturday. This half-brother to the successful hurdler, Matauenga, drifted slightly at the start but won hands down by two lengths and a half. Halycon (by Fair’s Fair) was the first of two winners ridden on Saturday by W. D. Skelton.
The most promising of Halycon’s rivals was the wellbred Kintyre (Sabaean-Kirk-lea), which lost second to Might in the last stride. Kintyre ran rather greenly in the lead, and his action suggested he would have done better on a firm track.
