Gibbes Wins Close Race
(N.Z. Press Association) BLENHEIM, December 20
T. Gibbes (Australia), on a 500 c.c. Greeves Special, and G. Hauger (Germany), on a 360 c.c. Wabbha. fought out the main race at the international moto-cross meeting at Hawkesbury, near Blenheim, today. Hauger took the lead at the second lap and held it till the eighth, when his motor stopped. His knee had knocked the petrol tap off and his motor stalled.
This enabled Gibbes to take a 200-yard lead. Hauger restarted and reduced the 23sec gap to 2jsec, but when he was within striking distance of Gibbes, Hauger went into a slide, finishing underneath his machine.
This cost him 21 seconds and he finished second to Gibbes. with M. Morf (Switzerland) third.
