Late Penalty Decides (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter — Copyright) TOKYO, December 20. The Canterbury University Rugby team defeated the AllHoshida side, 15-14, in Osaka, Western Japan, today. It was the New Zealanders’ first match in a tour of Japan that will end in Tokyo on December 31.
More than 10,000 spectators watched Canterbury University beat the Japanese in an evenly-fought contest. At half-time the home team led, 11-6.
The University full-back, D. C. Leary, won the match when he kicked a penalty goal only three minutes from the end.
The Canterbury squad, which is the third New Zealand Rugby team to have visited Japan, will play its next game in Nagoya on December 22. Today’s match was televised throughout Japan.
