LOCAL BODY LABOURERS

New Award Issued

Workers who come within the New Zealand Local Bodies (Rural Section) Labourers’ Award have been granted increased pay rates and shift allowances in an award which becomes effective today. Weekly workers have received an increase of 10s 3d bringing their weekly minimum pay rate to £l5. Casual workers have received an increase of 3d hourly, to bring their minimum rate to 7s 6d. A casual worker is a worker employed - for less than four consecutive weeks. For workers employed on shifts the added payment has been increased from 3s 6d a shift to 4s.

Pull-grader operators have been granted increased weekly payments of 10s bringing their minimum rate to £l5 ss.

The provisions of the award covering workers employed on such work as groynes and in riverbeds have been altered.
