ITALIAN MARKET
Prospects For N.Z. Products (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 20. New Zealand meat and dairy products could find a ready sale in Italy, but it was up to New Zealand to promote these products on the free Italian market, said the acting head of the Italian trade mission (Mr T. de Marco) in Auckland. Mr de Marco said local cheese and butter was of high quality, but Italians saw little or nothing of it. He said all members of the mission, most of whom will return to Italy tomorrow, were very satisfied with the business done and contacts made during their stay in the country. The mission had not come with the idea of obtaining immediate results, but hoped to improve future trading prospects between the two countries.
One of the obstacles, said Mr de Marco, appeared to be the New Zealand licensing system. It was to be hoped that this would be changed to allow new licensees to import from “non-traditional countries.”
