AMBULANCE SERVICE
Many Patients Pay Nothing Concern at the high proportion of ambulance cases who failed to contribute towards the cost of the service was expressed by the chairman of the Christchurch subcentre of the St. John Ambulance Association (Mr J. H. Skinner) at the annual meeting of the association last night. Mr Skinner said that the financial position of the subcentre had improved on last year, but between 36 per cent and 40 per cent of the patients carried during the year who were expected to contribute and who were not covered by social security had failed to do so. This was in spite of two appeal letters sent to them, he said. The following officers were elected President, Mr W. A. McAllister; vice-presidents, the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren, Messrs L. A. Bennett, D. H. Lawrence, H. E. Read, J. H. Skinner, G. W. Tench, Dr. C. J. J. Morkane, Dr. J. R. Thomas, and the Rev. Father K. J. Clark; committee, Messrs J. Abrams, J. D. Bull, J. D. Diggs, W. D. Douglas, J. Green, A. B. Jarmey, G. Ogilvie, R. C. Saunders, R. C. Wasley, and Dr. I. C. MacIntyre.
