Mairehau High School Prize-Giving Ceremony

His ideas of a successful person were given by the Regional Superintendent of the Department of Education (Mr S. S. P. Hamilton), guest speaker at the Mairehau High School’s annual prize-giving ceremony last evening. He congratulated the school on its splendid achievements during the year and said the occasion was one when those concerned need not be too modest about what they had been able to do. He said it seemed to be a national characteristic to “cut a man down to size.” “At the same time,” he said, “it is lovely to accept success honestly and remain the sort of person you were before.” The headmaster (Mr A. B. Ryan), said this was the first year the school had had a sixth form and next year it would have an upper sixth, when the roll would exceed 700. Prizes were presented by Mrs Hamilton.
