CONCORD WANTED
Unionists Meet (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, December 7. Representatives of British and French trade unionists working on the Concord supersonic jet airliner tonight called for the project to be continued to a “successful commercial conclusion.” Fifty-three trade unionists met in London to discuss the Concord, including 16 from France. Mr Clive Jenkins, secretary of one British union which has men working on the supersonic plane, said after the meeting it was critically important to the British aerospace industry that the Concord project continued.
Mr Jenkins said everyone had agreed it was extremely important to beat the United States in the race to produce a supersonic airliner. They recognised the project was expensive and they would make such suggestions to the British and French Governments as they though profitable, said Mr Jenkins. Mr Harold Wilson’s new Labour Government has asked France for a review of the present £2BO-million Anglo-French Concord project as part of the British administration’s plans to ease the burden on the nation’s economy.
