Skiers Support Appeal To Ombudsman
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Nov. 27. Concern at the Tongariro National Park Board’s plans for Mount Ruapehu, an-
nounced this week, and sup- > port for the appeal to the > Ombudsman by the manager • of Ski Enterprises Ltd. (Mr - R. Turner) was expressed today by a number of skiers in Wellington. “Surely Ruapehu Alpine Lifts should prove itself capable of operating its present appliances efficiently before being allowed to expand into other areas,” said one Wellington Ski Club official, Mr B. W. Hunt. “It is hard to understand the board’s decision in offering these new licences to Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, when Ski ; Enterprises Ltd., which over ’ the last five years has provided a cheap and efficient service for skiers, is prepared to install similar facilities in . the national downhill area , which it has pioneered,” said ’ Mr Hunt. Complaints about the poor ‘ service given to skiers by the ! Ruapehu Alpine Lift company had come not only from individual club members, but also ‘ from the Ruapehu Mountain Clubs Association, represent- ' ing more than 30 clubs. This association had officially complained to the authorities i about the poor service being ! offered by R.A.L., said Mr Hunt.
