CANADIAN DIPLOMAT
First Visit To Christchurch
Mr K. J. Burbridge, the Canadian High Commissioner in New Zealand, will make his first visit to Christchurch at the week-end, and will address a meeting of the Royal Commonwealth Society on Monday evening. Mr Burbridge was in the Canadian Government service as a legal adviser during the war and in 1947 he joined the Canadian Diplomatic Service. He served as legal adviser to the Department of External Affairs in Ottawa, and in 1954 became Canadian Deputy Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Council (NA.T.O.) and the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation (0.E.E.C.) in Paris.
Mr Burbridge was there until 1957 when he was appointed consul-general for
Canada in Seattle. He received his present appointment in January, 1963. Mr Burbridge has attended many international conferences as a Canadian adviser, delegate or observer. He is married and has a son aged 19 and a daughter aged 12.
