COLONIAL CLUBS TO DISBAND

(N .Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) DAR ES SALAAM, November 18. The newspaper “Sunday News” said today that British and other communal social clubs in the Arusha region of Northern Tanganyika have been ordered by the Tanzania Home Affairs Ministry to disband.

According to the newspaper, the clubs have been sent letters by the Home Affairs Minister (Mr Job Lusinde) giving them two months in which to close down. The paper said the letter described the societies as “quasi racial 0 and suggested they could “indulge in possible subversive activities prejudicial to peace and good order.”

The societies included in the ban are the Welsh, Irish and Caledonian societies, and the Royal Society of St. George. The “Sunday News” said it was understood that the Hellenic Society, mainly patronised by the large Greek community, has already changed its name to “Meru Society.” Menu is the twin mountain beside Mount Kilimanjaro.
