More Woollen Articles Made For Hospital
There had been a steady, production of woollen articles and other items for hospital use during the year, it was reported at the fifth annual meeting of the Friends of Princess Margaret Hospital. Donations had been made towards amenities which included materials for occupational therapy, the Templeton Chapel fund, costuming for the nurses’ nativity play and a contribution towards a television set for staff sisters. Books had been added to the library, and games provided for patients. Appreciation of the work done by the group was expressed by the medical superintendent in chief of the North Canterbury Hospital Board (Dr. L. McH. Berry) and the medical superintendent of Princess Margaret Hospital (Dr. R. C. S. Dick). Particular thanks were given to the retiring president, Mrs M. M. Curtis, who has led the group since its inception five years ago. She was presented with a gift and a sheaf of flowers. Miss J. Barnett (matron), who will shortly leave to take up her new position as deputy matron in chief in Auckland, also thanked the group for their help and support. The Friends presented her with a pressed wood tray. Miss M. Darby, who is to be the new matron, was introduced to members and assured of their service. Oliver; vice-presidents, Mesdames G. J. Francis. A. H. T. Rose, K. Hart, Z. E. Currie; secretary, Mrs A. White; treasurer, Mrs M. Symes; group leaders, sewing, Mrs G. M. Green; knitting, Mrs A. H. T. Rose; flowers, Mrs M. Wendelken; creche, Mrs R. A. Hamilton.
