Churchgoers all over the world, and many of those who do not go to church, must have been encouraged by the growing strength of the movement to draw the various der nominations closer together. Church unity, to very many people, represents progress of a particularly important kind. And without knowing very much about it all, we are inclined to agree. . But the bringing to-

gether of the various denominations must present some small difficulties, and there was an example of this at a recent ecumenical council In Christchurch at which all the denominations were represented. Yet the very fact that a problem arose was, in itself, one of the best possible examples of the goodwill which obviously existed among the representatives of the churches attending the council meeting.

It had been arranged that at the start and end of the council, the Lord's Prayer should be said. And so it was. When the clergymen reached “and deliver us from evil" the Protestants said . “Amen" in deference to the Roman Catholics, who end the prayer there. But the Roman Catholics, in deference to the Protestants, simply went ahead to the end. It can not but have done good.
