NO EXTRA ’PHONE
School Request Refused The Shirley Intermediate School is having difficulty over both inward and outward telephone calls on its own business because of the number of calls made to a visiting teacher based at the school but serving all primary, intermediate and high schools in the area. The Education Department has declined authority for the installation of a telephone for the visiting teacher. The Shirley Intermediate School has therefore asked all schools involved to contribute 25s a year for an extra telephone. The Shirley Boys’ High School board agreed “willingly” to contribute last evening but will make its own protest to the Education Department about refusal of the extra telephone. . “This visiting teacher is employed by the department and is doing invaluable work in assisting all the schools and parents over a wide area when they require advice,” said the headmaster (Mr C. V. Gallagher). He could not understand why a telephone was not provided for such an essential service.
