Sewage-Treatment Plant For Halswell Subsidised

A 40 per cent subsidy, with a limit of £12,760, on the actual cost of a sewage-treat-ment plant for the Halswell township area and the Oaklands area had been approved by the Cabinet works committee, said a report to the Halswell County Council last evening from its finance committee. The subsidy was conditional on a suitably trained operator being appointed in accordance with the Ministry of Works training and certification scheme. It was also reported that the Local Authorities Loans Board had advised that the council’s application to raise the sewerage loan of £112,000 had been sanctioned. Supermarket A report from the subdivision committee recommended that a permit be granted for the building of an I.G.A. supermarket subject to the siting complying with the code of ordinances and the submission of plans and specifications. New Reservoir. The county engineer (Mr M. J. Clark) reported that the new 100,000-gallon reservoir in

Kennedy’s Bush road was filled on November 16 for the first time. It had to remain full for a week for testing, and should come into use permanently by the end of the month. Road Sealing.—The council was advised that the sealing of Sutherlands road was estimated to cost about £4OOO. This amount had been placed on the estimates for 1968-69, and in the meantime the council would endeavour to carry out some temporary repair work. New Buildings.—The financial report said that seven building perimts valued at £13,806 had been issued since the previous meeting. The biggest was for a £6921 dwelling in Kennedy’s Bush road. Scramble Approved. The finance committee recommended that the Pioneer Motor Club be granted permission to hold a motor-cycle scramble at Mr S. Ogg’s farm at Tai Tapu on Sunday, December 6, subject to the necessary fire precautions being taken and adequate toilet facilities being provided.
