PANTS ON FIRE
Ship, Cargo Lost fN Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PORT MORESBY, Nov. 19. A small island trading vessel has been sunk by a native seaman's trousers. The boat, the Soronggena. was on a voyage from a small island known as Karkar to Madang on New Guinea's north coast. A native member of the Soronggena’s crew had washed his trousers during the voyage. He hung the trousers out to dry on the exhaust pipe of the boat's engine. The trousers then caught fire, the fire spread to the copra and before any of the crew could stop it the whole boat was blazing. The crew abandoned the boat, which later sank with its cargo of copra.
