GIN PRICE UP
6d For White Spirits (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 19. The wholesale price for 260 z bottles of gin, vodka and other white spirits has been increased by 6d, from £1 7s 6d to £1 Bs, and the retail price will probably be increased late next week. Mr J. H. Woodhouse, manager of Gilbeys, Ltd, distillers, said tonight the increase was caused by rises in ingredient, freight and packaging costs over the last two years. For different sized bottles the proportionate increase will apply. Mr H. D. Elierington, secretary of the Hotel Association, said the association committee would meet next Thursday or Friday to discuss the increases. “We will almost certainly have to raise the retail price,” he said, “as we cannot absorb the increase.”
Two Aerodromes.—Establishment orders for two aerodromes, Galatea and Rangiora, were gazetted last night. An area of 167 acres is involved in the establishment of the Galatea aerodrome by the Murupara Borough Council. The Rangiora County Council will establish the Rangiora aerodrome in an area of 68 acres.—(PA.)
