Rear-Admiral J. R. Reedy, commander of the United States Navy Antarctic support force, will leave Christchurch by air today for his quarters at McMurdo Station. He will return to the city for Christmas. Sergeant W. J. Prentice, of Dunedin, has been appointed chief officer of police for the Cook Islands. He will leave for Rarotonga with his wife and three children on December 11. The initial appointment is for thjee years.

Mr F. W. K. Humphreys, a member of the executive of the Christchurch Returned Services' Association and honorary secretary of the South Christchurch sub-branch, has returned to Christchurch after six months in Britain. While in London he had talks with the secretary-general of the British Commonwealth ExServicemen's League and with the two representatives of the New Zealand R.S.A. on it, Dr H. Bremner, and Mr W.
