Statistics show that ] New Zealanders are eating more spaghetti and macaroni than ever before, but there is not much evidence of it in private homes. Macaroni Cheese is a standby in most families, but here is a more interesting way of serving macaroni. Try it. You will need: 6oz macaroni 2 tablespoons melted butter 1 medium onion 2 Chinese gooseberries 1 small tin of tomato puree 1 teaspoon Worcester sauce

1 dessertspoon brown sugar J pint of the cooking liquid off the macaroni Salt and pepper. Method: Cook the macaroni in fast boiling salted water for approximately 16 minutes depending on the brand or until tender. Drain, reserving half a pint of the liquid. Rinse under cold water and keep in the dish. Pour into a pan the melted butter, lightly fry the onion, add the Chinese gooseberry sliced, the brown sugar, next the tomato puree and the rest of the ingredients. Season well with salt and pepper, add the macaroni and simmer for seven to eight minutes. Serve very hot.
