EXPENSIVE TASTES

(New Zealand Press Association)

ASHBURTON, Nov. 18. Last May a grain store foreman lost a £5 note after he had opened his pay. A search of the grain store was fruitless, and the foreman had to accept his loss.

Today, workers tearing down a stack of wheat unearthed a rat’s nest. In

the nest was a £5 note—torn in half and chewed at the edges. But the numbers were still legible and the note passed muster.

The only man in the store to have lost £5 was the foreman, and he was grateful to get the note back.
