BERETS FOR ARMY
Replacement Of Ski Cap
Berets are to become standard working headgear in the New Zealand Army. They will replace the ski-type battledress caps, known throughout the service as “hats, peculiar,” which were first adopted in 1957. Some corps have been wearing berets for years. They include the Armoured (black), Special Air Service (maroon), Nursing (grey) and Women’s Auxiliary (dark green). The most common colour, dark blue, will be worn by the Artillery, Signals, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, chaplains, provosts, Army liaison staff, cadets, and the service, dental, medical, pay and education corps. Infantry regiments will wear dark green and the Army Air Corps light blue.
