EXPEDITION TO RAOUL

Ornithological Society Team (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 16. The first major expedition mounted by the Ornithological Society of New Zealand will leave Auckland in the naval survey ship Lachlan tomorrow morning for Raoul Island. The 12-member party will spent two months and a half on the island studying both ocean and land-based birds. The expedition. which marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the society, will be led by Mr F. C. Kinsky, ornithologist at the Dominion Museum, and Mr Gordon Williams, of Lincoln College. They will be responsible for the scientific programme. Mr A. T. Edgar, of Kerikeri, secretary of the society, is the administrative leader.

The party also includes Mr W. R. Sykes, a botanist from the D.5.1.R., and Mr O. R. Wilks, an entomologist from the Bishop Museum. Honolulu, and Mr E. F. Lloyd, a vulcanologist from the Geological Survey.

The party is due back in Auckland in the Lachlan on January 28.
