Obituary MRS E. A. KENNARD
i Mrs Elizabeth Anne Kennard, a Canterbury pioneer, idled in Christchurch yesterday, aged 94. Born at Rangijora, she was the daughter of [Mr James Rule, a veterinary | surgeon, and Mrs Rule, and a ! grand-daughter of Mr and Mrs George Day, of Wellington, after whom Day’s Bay was named. Mrs Kennard was wellknown in the Annat district, ! where she and her husband, Mr Ernest Kennard, farmed ifor many years. A woman who never spared herself I where there was sickness or .need in the district, Mrs Kennard I 'was sometimes away I from home for weeks at a time nursing during the 1919 -influenza epidemic. Mr and Mrs Kennard later moved to Waikari, where Mrs Kennard was often called upon by doctors to help deliver babies though she had no training. The couple spent their retirement in Christchurch. where Mr Kennard die two years ago. Mrs Kennard is survived by four daughters, two sons, 23 grandchildren. 51 great-grand-children and four great-great-grandchildren.
