New Name For " Domain "
The Ashburton Domain will in future be called the Ashburton Park and Gardens. This decision was reached at last evening’s meeting of the I Ashburton Borough Council, and followed discussion by the Reserves committee at a recent meeting on the desirability of ensuring that the facilities in the Ashburton park were more widely known throughout the Dominion. The committee had considered that the term “Domain”: “created an impression of facilities other than those existing,” and recommended that in future all references to the Domain be in the name of the Ashburton Park land Gardens.
The report of the superintendent of parks and reserves (Mr I. F. Boniscb) said that the large numbers of local persons and visitors who had admired the spring blossom land bedding displays showed an increasing interest in the 'Domain Gardens.
