Ashburton Hospital
Sir,—Your report of the meeting of the Ashburton Hospital Board, held in committee, does not relieve the minds of the people of the board’s districts who are all potential patients. They are, I believe, entitled to more information about the hospital from the board and perhaps the medical profession and Health Department During World War IL when there were over 20,000 men in training in camps around Ashburton, the Ashburton Hospital
was enlarged to make beds available for the increase of potential patients at that time. Health Department reports and general observation have satisfied the public that there is no shortage of beds in the institution, but it is a fact that more local people are receiving treatment in Timaru or Christchurch than should be the case. Tearing down and rebuilding Ward 1 is not the answer but a red herring.—Yours, etc., T. November 1, 1964.
