TROTTING SIR CHARLES IN FORM FOR TODAY

Sir Charles will be a dominaiting favourite for the Publicans’ Handicap, the first leg of the on-course double at the Kaikoura Trotting Club’s annual meeting today.

Sir Charles created a good impression when at his first race start he gained a decisive win on the first day of the recent Oamaru meeting. Two days later on the same course he finished second to Vanity Show over 13 furlongs, being caught over the final 50 yards.

Sir Charles, a brother of the well-performed mare, Lady Charles, looks capable of further promotion. He should be improved by his races at Oamaru and should be too good for this small field. Heriot has not raced since he lost his driver at Motukarara on October 10. He has a useful turn of speed and should be capable of a bold showing. Westward Ho, a place-get-ter at Greymouth recently, and Real Hennessey appeal most of the others. Loyal Smoke, Spring Greetings and Rosina form a likely trio for the second leg, the South Bay Handicap, in which Big Charge, Kerry Cord and Trade Talk may also race prominently. Mitcham and Lumumba form the probable favourite combination for the T.A.B. double, which will be run on the Kaikoura Cup and the Memorial Handicap. Fine weather is forecast and the track will be fast. Fields are:— FIRST LBG ON-COURSE DOUBLE 11.20 a.m.— PUBLICANS* HANDICAP, £250; 2:19 class; 13f. Black Braid (1) .. It. 9200 Heriot (7) ..
