SEVENTIETH BIRTHDAY
Timaru Ladies’ Golf Club (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, Oct. 30. A special birthday anniversary song was sung when the Timaru Ladies’ Golf Club celebrated its seventieth birthday at the Levels course clubhouse on Thursday. There were about 80 members at the special afternoon tea function, and 50 former members, among them Mrs M. G. Webb, who played on the original course in North street. The birthday cake was cut by Mrs Webb, who received an inscribed silver spoon to mark the event. Helping Mrs Webb to cut the cake were Mrs E. H. Bray (president), and Mr A. L. Marshall, who played for the club when it was in its infancy. Mrs Bray told the gathering that the club was one of the oldest golf clubs in the country. Other speakers were Mr R. G. Slade, president of the Timaru Golf Club, Mrs L. E. Finch (a former member), and the president of the Highfield Ladies’ Golf Club (Mrs E. W. Gualter).
