Women’s Cricket BATSMEN IN COMMAND
Two Century Partnerships Two century opening partnerships were outstanding in the senior women’s cricket competition on Saturday. P. Moore (97) and J. Goddard (53) scored 141 for the first wicket for Technical again Mai Moa, and P. Adair (56) and J. Witte (82) scored 107 for Western against St. Albans. The best bowling figures of the day came from P. Blackler, who took six for 43 against Western, and J. Lowe, who took five for 51. St. Albans II v. Beckenham Batting first, St. Albans II declared at 163 for nine wickets after a last-wicket partnership of 48 between M. Alabaster (33 not out' and H. Warren (15 not out). Others who scored well were: A. Colville (17), K. Pyatt (20), K. Wilkinson (20) and M. Skelton (30). The Beckenham bowler, J. Lowe who took five for 51, was the main wickettaker. Beckenham replied with 67 for five wickets at stumps, J. Lowe making 30 and M. Healy 27. A most disappointing feature of the Beckenham innings was the running out of three players. Technical v. Mai Moa An opening partnership of 141 by P. Moore (97) and J. Goddard (53) put Technical in a commanding position against Mai Moa. Technical declared at 213 for four wickets. P. Keen, who took two for 56, was the best of the Mai Moa bowlers. At stumps Mai Moa was 69 for three wickets, with M. Lawson 26 and P. Keen 21. N. Bennett, O. Williams and P. Moore each took a wicket for Technical. Western V. St. Albans I At Malvern Park, Western was sent in to bat. P. Adair, who made 56, and J. Witte (82) gave the team a fine start, their running between the wickets being excellent. Western was dismissed for 162. The opening bowlers for St. Albans failed to strike a length and found Adair and Witte taking tally of the loose ball. P. Blackler, although not bowling as well as usual, kept the runs down and was rewarded when Adair was dismissed for 56 after a first-wicket partnership of 107. Blackler finished with the good analysis of 29.3 overs, 7 maidens, 43 runs, 6 wickets. J. Watson in her second spell of bowlin came Into her own and took three for 81. St. Albans was 40 for one wicket at stumps, with J. Stead 21 not out and N. Steere 16 not out.
