Palisade Picked For Wyndham First Leg

"The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL, Oct. 30. Palisade and Kumai, completing their race preparations for the New Zealand Cup at Riccarton next Saturday, are expected to dispute the finish of the Spring Handicap, main event and first leg of the double at the Wyndham Racing Club's spring meeting tomorrow. Twelve months ago, Kumai scored an easy win in the Spring Handicap with 9-11, 41b less than he has today. The same day Palisade won the J. F. Buchanan Handicap at the Banks Peninsula meeting. Kumai carried on to run

third in the cup at Riccarton a week later with Palisade three-quarters of a length away fourth. Baalbeck’s track work at Gore on Thursday suggested he will make a bold showing. He won the Winton Cup impressively two starts back. Golden Glen and Woodcock, both good winners last season, will be starting fresh campaigns. A longer-odds prospect could be Solicitor which finished strongly for sixth at Gore on Monday. Manners, a Stewards’ Handicap candidate and a good second to Bellarook at Gore, looks the one to beat in the second leg. the Flying Handicap.

Flying Trix, Gladaub, Hot Foot (if she gets a start) and Mirror will also come in for solid support. The weather has been fine and the track will be hard and fast.
