BIG OIL FIRE IN SYDNEY. —A fire boat pouring water into the blazing storage depot of Mobil Oil (Australia), Ltd., at Hunter’s Hill, Sydney. More than 9000 44-gallon drums of lubricant oils and greases exploded, rocking nearby homes, before the fire was brought under control two hours and a half after the outbreak. The firemen stopped the flames spreading to 40 million gallons of motor spirit and oil stored in huge tanks. The damage is estimated at £400,000.
