THE BOARD REGRETS
Members of the Board expressed regret at being unable to approve representations made by the Canterbury Chamber of C ommerce and Waiho Sawmills Ltd., for a major deviation between Hari Hari and Whataroa. The cost of the project, which would include 12 miles of upgrading, eight miles of new formation and additional bridging, was assessed at £317,000. It was believed a project of this magnitude could not be considered in that area for many years. Bridge crossings of the two rivers concerned would be more difficult than renewals on existing locations. The existing road now carried considerable investment
