Open By End Of Month (N.Z. Preu Aiiociatton) INVERCARGILL, Oct. 21. The snow-covered Milford road will not be open for Labour week-end, but clearing should be completed by October 31, the resident engineer for the Ministry of Works, Mr L. L. Spencer, said in Invercargill today. The road was impassable for 10 chains on the Te Anau side of the Homer Tunnel portal. Snow and ice were piled up In drifts up to 20ft deep at this section. A bulldozer was working in the area and should be able to clear the blocked section by October 31. Mr Spencer said an engineer, Mr R. F. Wilson, who inspected the road yesterday reported that there was a definite thaw, but the road was still affected by small avalanches of snow falling from the tops.
