Compensation For Fall-out

NOUMEA. The Rongeiap Compensation Bill was signed recently by President Johnson. The bill provides for settlement of claims of inhabitants of Rongeiap, in the trust territory of the Pacific Islands, as compensation for accidental exposure to radio-active fallout.

Under this new law, some 950,000 dollars will be paid to Rongeiap islanders who were on the island in 1954, when unexpected wind shifts during a test explosion put the island within the fall-out area.

Today, the inhabitants are in good health and are examined each year by Hie Atomic Energy Commission of the United States.
