COMMUNITY CHOIRS

Concert At University

The sixteenth annual community choirs concert of the Christchurch Civic Music Council will be held in the University Hall on Wednesday, October 21. A Hay’s junior league choir, under the conductor, Clifton Cook, will present “The Crade Song,” “Where the Bee Sucks,” “Who is Sylvia??” and “The Old Woman and the Handsome Butcher.” The Addington Male Voice Choir under conductor Charles L. Martin will present “The Seekers,” by George Dyson, and arrangements by Mr Martin, John Ritchie and Quentin Gannaway. The Risineholme Choir, under Albert Wilson, will present Jugoslav folk songs by Matyas Seiber. The Christchurch North Choir of the Townswomen’s Guild will sing part songs, madrigals, and some compositions by Vaughan-Williams. The Aeolian Choir, conducted by Eric Voyce, will present Armstrong Gibbes’ “Five Eyes,” and the South Brighton Choral Society’s choir under Geoffrey Thorpe will present Charles L. Martin’s setting of Greenleaf Whittier’s “Barbara Dietchle.” The evening’s presentation will end with the massed choirs, under Mr E. R. FieldDodgson, presenting Thiman’s “The Spacious Firmament.”
