(N.g. rrtu A«*oc4Mß>»> WHANGAREI, Oct. 19. Fred Cottrell on Saturday broke the New Zealand underwater endurance record by staying submerged for 11 hours and five minutes. Previously he record was held by Bill Palmer, of Whangarei. At 10.25 a.m. on Saturday, Cottrell entered the water after an attempt by Palmer to stay submerged for 24 hours had been abandoned earlier in the day. Cottrell said he found several problems and learned a good deal. Nausea, which he attributed partly to the water temperature being too high, and loneliness, were the most difficult to deal with. Cottrell took no food during his submersion, although It is possible to eat some soft foods and drink from a bottle underwater. Bowling Entries By lata yesterday afternoon, 1833 bowlers had entered for the Dominion tournament which is to be staged on Auckland greens from January 4.
