Synod Service In Cathedral
The preacher at the synod service in Christchurch Cathedral last evening was the Bishop of Victoria Nyanza (the Rt. Rev. M. L. Wiggins). He used as his theme the call of the Church to mission.
Bishop Wiggins quoted William Temple, a former Archbishop of Canterbury as saying that the Church was the only organisation which existed primarily to serve non-members. He asked whether the parishes of the diocese were geared primarily for the comfort of those who were members or geared to go out in the name of God to those who were not
During the service, the vicar of St. John’s, Latimer square (the Rev. D. D. Thorpe) was installed as a canon.
