The Bishop’s Voice

Explaining that his voice would probably not “last out,” the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) at Synod yesterday handed over the reading of his 25 page report to the Rev. J. S. Vincent. “He has had experience before with this sort of thing,” the Bishop said with a smile. Mr Vincent was a radio announcer before he was ordained. He completed the Bishop’s address in one hour five minutes. Cloudy Day A moderate south-westerly wind and a cloudy sky brought cool temperatures to Christchurch yesterday. The highest temperature during the day was 60 degrees at noon on the Government Life building. At Harewood the temperature was 47 degrees at 6 a.m., 57 degrees at 9 a.m., 59 degrees at noon, 57 degrees at 3 p.m., and 56 degrees at 4 p.m. The Botanic Gardens had a reading of 57 degrees at 3 p.m. and at 4.30 p.m. there was a reading of 56 degrees on the Government Life building.

Flounder Catch Auckland professional fishermen are bringing in nearrecord hauls of flounder, mainly from the Coromandel area. Mr J. Prescott, of the Kia Ora fish mart, fishermen’s wharf, said the flounder catches were the biggest for many years. His firm alone handled more than three tons last week.—(P.A.) Protest Today A protest will be staged in Cathedral square today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., by the New Zealand Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament against the testing of a nuclear bomb by China. Hole.ln.One A Roman Catholic priest, the Rev. Father E. Eastwick, of the Pakipaki Presbytery, yesterday recorded a hole-in-one at the Hastings Golf Club’s Bridge Pa course during a friendly round. He accomplished the feat at the 153-yard 16th hole, and duly left a “donation” with the club professional, so that other players on the links could celebrate his effort—(P.A.)
