First-Round Victory

Karl Mildenberger (West Germany) won the vacant European heavy-weight boxing title when he knocked out Sante Amontl (Italy) in the first round of the scheduled 15-round fight here tonight The title had been declared vacant when the European Boxing Union stripped Britain's Henry Cooper of the crown last month The end of tonight’s bout came in the second minute of the first round when Mildenberger, a south-paw, landed a shattering left hook to the body followed by a right to Amonti’s chin. The Italian doubled up and slumped head first on to the canvas.
