(N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) TOKYO, Oct. 18. Two students beat Olympic “favourites” today to collect swimming gold medals for Australia and the United States. Bob Webster, an American Army private, retained the high diving championship, and Kevin Berry, an Australian, finished about nine feet ahead of the American favourite Carl Robie, to win the 200 metres butterfly. Ginny Duenkel. a 17-year-old United States student, overhauled the world recordholder, Marilyn Ramenovsky. whom swimming experts had considered almost unbeatable in the 400 metres freestyle, to win the Olympic event, in a record 4min 43.35ec.

Romuald Klim, of Russia, won the men’s hammer throwing gold medal. Gyula Zsivotsky, of Hungary, took the silver and Uwe Beyer (Germany), the bronze.
