Mexican White Slavery

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MEXICO CITY, October 18. Three sisters accused of white slavery, kidnapping and the corruption of minors have been sentenced to prison for terms ranging from 20 to 26 years, following police investigations into slave traffic throughout Mexico.

The sisters, Eva, Maria de Jesus and Delfina Gonzales, who were convicted in the

Guanjuato State Court, were said to have filled brothels they ran with girls acquired through advertisements for maids. Eva was sentenced to 26 years and Maria de Jesus and Delfina to 20 years. Sentencing the sisters, together with a long list of men and women employed by them, the presiding judge called their crimes “the most heinous in the history of the State and probably in Mexico.” The employees of the Gonzales sisters received prison terms ranging from five to 26 years. The sisters were alleged to have headed a white-slave

ring and a chain of brothels through five Mexican states. Police also alleged they ordered the “liquidation” of some of their girls after they became sick or refused to collaborate. Police were reported to have found 29 bodies buried in various “private cemeteries,” including four buried in the courtyard of a cabaret owned by the sisters. At one brothel in San Francisco del Rincon, several girls told police they were beaten and starved. One girl was reported to have said she cremated two bodies with petrol while the Gonzales sisters watched.
