Buying Italian Boats

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) TOKYO, October 16.

Australia would buy two Italian-built rowing boats from fellow Olympic competitors in Tokyo, as a first move in overcoming her equipment deficit, said the rowing manager, Mr A. McCliesh. •

“We are four years behind as a rule when we get to an Olympic Games,” he said. “We capitalise on what we have learnt at one games but by the time the next one comes along the Northern Hemisphere rowers are well ahead again.”

The Rev. C. R. Tonks has been appointed vicar of the Anglican parochial district of the Chatham Islands. Mr Tonks, at present assisting in the parish of Shirley, served curacies in Timaru and Spreyddn. Mr and Mrs Tonks expect to leave for the Chatham Islands early in December.
