(From Our Parliamentary Reporter)
WELLINGTON, Oct 2. The net result of the increased salary for ordinary members of Parliament is. an increase in monthly, take-home pay from £97 12s 5d for a married member without dependents to £l2B 9s sd. This Is after deductions have been made for supannuation (10 per cent of salary) and taxation. . The Prime Minister interrupted the second reading debate on social security increases to present to the House the Parliamentary salaries report today. This, he said, had been
in his hands “for a couple of days and I have kept it entirely to myself.” There had . been some doubt whether enough copies could be made ready, but he now knew that sufficient had been printed for immediate distribution to all members. Within a few minutes, while Mr R. L. Bailey (Opp., Heretaunga) continued his speech on age benefits, a few members returned to the chamber with copies of the report for their cplleagues. For some time most were absorbed with the news the report contained for them.
