CAR STRUCK BY EXPRESS
(N.Z. Press Association) WANGANUI, Oct. 2. A young man is in Wanganui Hospital after the car he was driving left a road near Taihape and plunged down a bank to the railway line. He is David Ross Lascelles Twiss, aged 22, of Cambridge, stationed at H.M.N.Z.S. Irirangi,' Waiouru. His condition is fairly satisfactory. The Taihape stationmaster, Mr A. L. English, said the car was hit by the southbound express at 1.24 a.m. this morning. “The car evidently failed to take a bend, about half-a-mile from the Taihape railway station, and plunged down a 150 ft hill to the railway line. It appeared the car hit a boulder just above the line and the driver was thrown out,” he said. The express was delayed 19 minutes.
