IMPROVED TV.
Transmitters In N.I. (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 2. The Government has given the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation authority to call tenders for the construction of large, permanent transmitter buildings On Mount Te Aroha, in the Waikato, and Wharite peak, in the southern Ruahines. The Director-General of Broadcasting (Mr G. H. Stringer) said today the tenders would probably be called next month.
The Minister of Broadcasting (Mr Scott) said the new buildings would house 100kilowatt equipment now on order to replace the one kilowatt units at present giving interim or “pilot” services from the two sites. Mr Scott said both projects were significant and essential parts of the N.Z.B.C.’s plan to improve and extend primary television cover in the North Island.
