Christchurch Customs
Customs revenue collected in Christchurch in the six months to September 30 was £5,302,748 against £4,869,912 in the same six months of last year. Sales tax rose to £1,767,872 from £1,376,350, and miscellaneous duty to £53,587 from £43,086. These were the main advances. In September £950,257 was collected in revenue against £867,096 in the same month last year. Customs and excise was £635,120 (against £607,719), tyre duty £575 (£565), sales tax £306,471 (£251,241), light dues £1435 (£1729) and miscellaneous duty £6652 (£5842). WELLINGTON Revenue collected by the Customs Department'in Wellington during September totalled £5,646,294, compared with £3,462,511 In September last year . Details are:—Customs, £947,296 (£901,787); sales tax, £2,276,773 (£438,546); motor spirit tax, £2,253,223 (£1,703,684); tyre duty, £152 (£80); other, £168,000 (£350,261). DUNEDIN Customs returns for Dunedin in September showed a £35,000 increase on September last year. Amounts collected, with last year’s returns in parenthesis, were:— Customs, £177,167 19s 6d (£177,599 4s 4d): sales tax, £87,329 13s 9d (£71,005 OS 7d); other, £129,423 Is 7d (£110,465 18s 6d): tyres, £290,11s 9d (£166 6s 9d): total, £394,211 6s 8d (£359,236 10s 2d).
