LIFE BOYS’ RALLY
Ashburton Venue The largest gathering of Life Boys in the South Island will be at the Ashburton Show Grounds, on November 7. It will be a sports meeting rally. The rally will begin with a march past of all competing teams for the ' official opening. Entries will be for one of two sections: athletics or team events. The athletics section will include flat races, hurdles, jumps, and the shot put. Team events, will include Rugby, association football, basketball, softball, and other events suitable for the eight-to-12 age group. Medals will be awarded for platings in both sections and points will be awarded to winners of each event to find the champion team of the day. A fanfare of bugles and drums will be provided by members of the Boys’ Brigade. It is expected that two trains will be required to transport the Life Boys and their supporters from Christchurch to Ashburton. Visiting boys and leaders will be billeted in Christchurch homes. More than 1000 Life Boys attended a similar gathering in Ashburton three years ago. They came from Christchurch, Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Ashburton, and Timaru.
