REDUCTION IN DUTY
Cheaper Than Imported (N 2. Press Association) DUNEDIN, October 2. Whisky is to be produced at the Willowbank premises, Dunedin, of the Wilson Malt Extract Company, Ltd. “Naturally we are very pleased the licence has been granted. We think whiskymaking will prove a very valuable addition to local industry," the managingdirector of Wilson’s, Mr A. J. Reid, said. Dunedin whisky will retail at a lower cost than its imported equivalent, for the duty has been fixed at 90s a proof gallon, 30$ a gallon less than for imported. “We intend to pass on the full reduction on to the public—while making sure that the quality of it is at least as high as that from overseas,” Mr Reid said. “We shall be producing several varieties and, with expert guidance, be blending our own.”
