Boom In Coin Collecting
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A )
1 » fc. > Ji . LONDON. October 2. Numismatics —the collecting of coins—is described as the latest and “smartest” profitable hobby. A collection of 650, owned by Lady Duveen, and begun in 1919, has been sold for £120,300 —about £40,000 more than anticipated.
A 1910 gold George V pattern crown fetched £4lOO, or £lOO short of a world record. “In the last year the price of rare coins has risen out of all proportion,” said Mr William Lewis, a director of an auction firm. “There’s more money available—it’s become a booming hobby in America, so prices are rising.”
